Resolution R-82-3 A Resolution by The Borough of Marcus Hook Honoring Mayor Wayne C. Weldon For His Dedicated Service to His Community Whereas, Wayne Curtis "Curt" Weldon assumed the duties of Mayor of the Borough of Marcus Hook on June 8, 1977; and Whereas, He had advocated a "new look" administration in local government; and Whereas, He succeeded in improving the image of our community by standing firm against an existing motorcycle gang, which had received prominence as having its National Headquarters in our community; and Whereas, He was instrumental in securing a grant through the Pennsylvania Department of Community Affairs to fund a Local Development Advisor Program in our community, which was highly successful and one which the borough has, with the use of Community Development Block Grant funds, extended beyond its initial program in order to continue to address our community's needs; and Whereas, He has shown his sensitivity and dedication to his community on many occasions, a prime example being the Green Street Cavern explosion when he held daily meetings with various State and Federal agencies as well as with Sun Oil Company and the displaced residents in order to effectuate a just settlement to all affected residents as well as insuring their continued health and safety upon their return to their residences; and Whereas, He sought the assistance of many State and Federal agencies in the planning and implementation of many projects in our community, many of which will be implemented in the coming years; and Whereas, He attended many meetings with prospective businesses to discuss possible relocation or opening of their operations in our community and ultimately secured teh operations of Air Products, McIlvain Lumber, BT Industrial Supplies and IU Conversion Systems, all of which provided job placements for borough residents at their firms; and Whereas, He established a communications link with local industries to allow an exchange of views on general and specific matters which were common to all parties involved; and Whereas, He initiated the creation of a Council of Governments wherein each of the surrounding communities, as well as the Borough of Marcus Hook, send representatives to discuss mutual areas of concern or create joint projects between the respective communities; and Whereas, He helped to create our Community Center and the non-profit Marcus Hook Community Development Corporation which operates it and allows many civic organizations an opportunity to provide activities for our residents which include a Senior Citizens complex, a large recreational area as well as facility for Girl Scout activities; and Whereas, He has evoked a sense of community pride with his recent appointment to Delaware County Council; Now Therefore, Be It Resolved that the Borough of Marcus Hook presents this Resolution to Wayne Curtis Weldon in recognition and appreciation for his guiding leadership and many contributions to his community and wish him much success and happiness in his future endeavors. Resolution R-87-1 A Resolution in Tribute to Wayne Curtis Weldon Upon His Election and Inauguration to the United States Congress As a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives Whereas, Wayne Curtis "Curt" Weldon's Marcus Hook roots run deep having reasided in the Borough for the first 37 years of his life; and Whereas, Having been raised in a family and community where volunteer community service was a way of life, Curt became an active member of Viscose Fire Company and eventually rose to the ranks of President and Chief of that organization; and Whereas, With his leadership position in the community established, Curt assumed the duties of Mayor of the Borough of Marcus Hook in June 1977 and; and Whereas, During the years that followed, this young, dynamic leader was to oversee a program of revitalization, of progressive change, that would be impressive anywhere; and Whereas, As Mayor he succeeded in improving the image of the community, while addressing municipal public safety, economic development, community development adn social service needs; and Whereas, The present day renaissance of Marcus Hook, its position as a role model for other communities now suffering from conditions of social and economic decline, has its origins with a man and a vision, Curt Weldon; and Whereas, Curt evoked a sense of community pride with his October 1981 appointment to the Delaware County Council and his selection as Chairman of County Council in January 1985; and Whereas, An overwhelming victory in the November 1986 election to represent the 7th Congressional District in Washington was clear recognition of his hard work, commitment to serve and leadership abilities; and Whereas, Marcus Hook Borough is proud to be the "home town" of Curt Weldon. Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved that the Borough of Marcus Hook presents this Resolution to Wayne Curtis "Curt" Weldon in recognition of dedicated service to his community, Marcus Hook, his county, and to his country, the United States of America, on this day of his inauguration as a Congressman to the United States House of Representatives. Resolution R-88-7 Borough of Marcus Hook A Resolution in Tribute to United States Congressman Wayne Curtis Weldon and Designating Congressman Weldon as Grand Marshall of the Marcus Hook Memorial Day Parade, May 28, 1988 Whereas, Marcus Hook Borough is proud to claim Wayne Curtis "Curt" Weldon, United States Congressman representing the 7th Congressional District, as one of its favorite and outstanding sons; and Whereas, Curt Weldon was born in Marcus Hook, Pa., in July 22, 1947, attended local schools, and graduated from West Chester State College in 1969, and Whereas, After many years of volunteer fire service in the community, Curt assumed the duties of Mayor of the Borough of Marcus Hook in June 1977; and Whereas, He has carried over into his daily life the precepts and disciplines he learned during his early years in Marcus Hook, continuing to give the very best to the game of life advancing steadily to positions of greater responsibility and respect in the arena of public service and attaining an overwhelming victory in November, 1986 to represent the 7th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives; and Whereas, Curt has continued to maintain close ties with family, friends and the residents of Marcus Hook, and has made no secret of his affection for his hometown and his pride in the progress that has been achieved in this community; Now, Therefor, Be It Resolved that the Borough of Marcus Hook presents this resolution to United States Congressman, Wayne Curtis Weldon, in recognition of dedicated service to Marcus Hook and to the United States of America and designates Wayne Curtis Weldon as Grand Marshall of the Marcus Hook Memorial Day Parade, May 28, 1988. 1988
